It was a wonderful day for a picnic, the weather perfect. Over 40 people, almost 50 Scotties, Westies and a poodle gathered for the Scottish Terrier Club of Michigan Annual Picnic. They came from MI, IL, OH, and IN. The huge yard was filled with Scotties running free and playing. The four deck aprox. 300 ft long landscaped terrace was filled with our furry friends running on all fourlooking for any critter that dared be there. Some Scotties pups were were playing ball in the large yard below and could they make that ball move, better then pro soccer players, as the people gather around chatting. laughing, and watching the herd of Scotties with awe.
As the time for eating approached several Scots had to be put in x-pens as they were determined to guard the door to the enclosed sun room, (where the food was being layed out) from the other fur kids. Soon the humans were eating and most of the fur kids were napping under their humans chair with one eye open in case a scrap would fall and they could scarf it up.
After a wonderful meal and plenty of homemade cookies for the fur kids, the games began. Musical Scots (and Westies) also a rally course was being conducted for both beginners and experts. Soon the call came for the ice cream with each fur kid getting their own scoop supervised by their human.
After naps while the people chatted, the racing began again, around the yard, across all four levels of the terrace.
After their 2nd wind started to wear down people were packing up and the fur kids were chosing their woobie to take home along with a goodie bag with grooming mit, leash light, and lint roller.
I do believe I saw as many good-byes and hugs between the fur kids as their was between humans, companions, rescues, show dogs and puppies - all tired to the bone and talking about next year.
