SEPTEMBER 8TH AND 9TH, 2007
2007 Specialty Show Committee

Specialty Report: -by Show Chairman,Sue Cerka
Fun! Fun! Fun! The Scottish Terrier Club of Michigan’s 37th 2007 Specialty kept everyone smiling-starting with the beautifully decorated venue at the Kalamazoo Kennel Club Building. Our theme this year was a Mexican Fiesta. Hospitality on Friday night featured excellent Mexican h’orderves. What fun we had watching the puppies in the Fun Match, expertly judged by Gary Stroede. Judge Stroede also presided over the Mexican Fiesta Costume Contest where creative costumes for Scotties and owners brought smiles and laughter to all. The Rescue table featured many beautifully hand-made items – designed by Jim DeArmond. Two new vendors joined our celebration this year. The STCM featured a book-signing with Mary Duffy, author of “The Front Porch Bunch” and GG Haven’s “Remembering Bead Pet Memorial”. The bountiful Boutique and Silent Auction exuded the Fiesta theme and featured a wooden Donkey Cart that has belonged to Lill Martin.
This years’ Specialty was dedicated to Bob Strong, a life-long Scottie lover. Dee, Bob’s widow
was at ringside to check on the future of our breed. Saturday AM started with hot coffee and a delicious Brunch. The weather was beautiful. Sweepstakes Judge Linda Tubbs-Bell started her judging assignment promptly at 10AM with an entry of 19 beautiful youngsters. She expertly completed her assignment making her selection of Best of Sweep. Our Rescue Parade touched our hearts. Thanks to all who dedicated their lives to Rescue our beloved breed. After a break, Judge Vandra Huber began her judging assignment with an entry of 51 and one Veteran. She took charge of her ring and expertly dispatched her assignment, selecting her winners from an outstanding entry.
Immediately after judging, the show ring was changed into a dining area, complete with decorations and head table. A Mexican Buffet was enjoyed by all - including luscious Caliente Chocolate cake slices – oh so chocolate!! President Larry Cerka began the after dinner presentations by inducing our board and reviewing the names and owners of our winners for the day. Our judges offered their comments and observations about the “State of our Breed” and were presented with thank-you gifts. The show committee, board, exhibitors and visitors were thanked. The Health Raffle was held featuring a framed original sketch of “Braeburn’s Close Encounter” (Shannon) donated by Pat & Tracy Wooster and a beautifully hand-crafted Scottie quilt, crafted and donated by Ann Tomczyk. Our after dinner auction and raffle were completed. The clean-up committee was inclusive of many of our visitors and accounted for our timely end to the day.
Thank you to all who attended and participated in making this year’s Specialty a huge success. It was a pleasure to have worked with such a wonderful group of people for the past 3 years. I’m looking forward to working with this successful team of people next year as a committee member. - Sue
