STCM Scottie Rescue Program

The STCM has had a long-standing concern about the welfare of Scottish Terrier that find themselves in unfortunate situations requiring action to protect the health and safety of the dog.  The program exists to identify those Scotties that are in need of immediate assistance and to provide the security, medical care and eventual placement in the caring "forever" home to live out their lives.  We are particularly fortunate to have a group of individuals that make the rescue program a success.

If you are interested in providing a "Forever" home for a Scottie in our Rescue Program, please contact our Program Coordinator, Regina by filling out the "Application for Adoption" in the link below

Do I Go Home Today?  a poem by Sandi Thompson

Here are a few of our Rescued Scotties

Hi! I'm Winston.  I'm so thankful for the STCM Rescue Program.  I had to leave my owner Sonja, who was a very nice Mom.  She bought me because she was lonely, but she soon found out I needed a lot more exercise and attention than she could give me.  I was sad to leave Sonja and her grandkids.  She was sad too.  She took very good care of me - I am very healthy, fixed and up to date on my shots.

Here I am with my new Mom, Maria Everett when she picked me up. She has two other Scotties that she takes very good care of.  She's a very good cook...especially her chicken dinners.  I love to run in the yard with her other Scotties.  I miss Sonya sometimes.  I hope she is not too lonely but I am in my "forever' home and getting lots of exercise now.

Claire came in to the Fulton, IN Shelter with another terrier-type dog. Claire was attached to her "buddy", so much so that when the two got loose upon surrender, the shelter had to use the other dog to get close to Claire. At no time did Claire attempt to bite.  She was separated from her "buddy" and sheltered with another dog where she settled.  Claire's "buddy" was quickly adopted.

Claire needed medical attention and had an eye condition called "cherry eye" for which she needed surgery. She would not be adoptable until her eye surgery could be completed.  Fulton Shelter personnel contacted the person who had adopted Claire's "buddy".  She was willing to take Claire but could not afford the surgery.

The Scottish Terrier Club of America, our parent club asked for our assistance.  A donation from the STCM Rescue Program would provide Claire with the necessary surgery and medical treatment.  Fulton Shelter personnel transported her to veterinary appointments and gave her the necessary medications.

Claire's eye surgery and medical treatment were completed and she now lives in her "forever" home with her doggie "buddy".

Meet Maise Jane.  She was a stray in the thumb area of Michigan and was picked up by another Rescue organization who took her to their vet for medical attention and spaying.  That organization contacted the STCM Rescue Program. She was placed in her forever home with Patricia Baugh-Reichers.

Hi! I'm Hamish.  I used to be called Barry.  I'm the handsome Wheaten Scottie sitting by my new Mom, Rose.  Ken and Rose Walton adopted me.  Boy those other guys sure look jealous cause I'm sitting next to Mom. Here is what my Mom wrote to Regina, the STCM Rescue Coordinator once I got to my new "forever" home.  "We picked up Hamish Saturday and he is doing remarkably well.  We love him.  Just got back from our vet to get him checked over and have all his shots up to date and of course a micro-chip.  He was really good and Jim loved him too.  Our only challenge is to overcome the voluntary deafness that terriers are afflicted with and that will take some time.  Thank you so much for letting us have him."  Hey Mom, I just need to get used to my new name....my hearing is outstanding just like the rest of me!  (Pictured with Hamish and Rose is the whole gang, including her son's two dogs who are visiting.  Everyone is getting along and having a ball.)

This is "Gunny Sack" a 3 year old Scottie lovingly called "Gunny" by her owner.  The owner's daughter writes to the STCM Rescue Coordinator:  "She is current on all shots and is on heartworm medicine.  She will chase anything that runs, but she loves my Mom's cats and they have gotten used to having her in their faces.  She is better with older children because they don't look her in the face.  She is energetic but I think that is primarily because she has spent too much time in a crate.  My Mother loves this dog, but she doesn't get enough attention due to my Mom's life circumstances.  Thank you for your help."

This is Maple, alias Gunny Sack.  She was adopted by a loving family that has a 9 year old daughter, older dog and a cat.  Report is that Maple is a good fit in her "forever" home.  All love her (the cat has reservations).
